Keep The Medicine Bow WILD
Comparison of Alternatives F and D
HOME

The Keep the Medicine Bow WILD (Alternative F) would: The Forest Service preferred alternative (Alternative D) would:
Roadless Areas and Wilderness Protect all roadless areas, most of which as wilderness. Protect the Rock Creek and the Laramie Peak roadless areas as wilderness. But would not adequately protect any other roadless areas and would unabashedly sacrifice the Illinois Creek and La Bonte Canyon roadless areas to the timber industry.
Clearcut logging End clear-cut logging in favor of less environmentally harmful types. Continue clear-cut logging as the preferred type.
Over-all logging Reduce logging to sustainable levels-cutting by more than half the actual on-the-ground logging that takes place on average every year. Actually increase on-the-ground logging.
Wildlife Corridors Restore wildlife corridors throughout the forest so all its animals can move freely and find the habitat they need to thrive-thereby reducing forest fragmentation. Cut the forest into smaller and smaller pieces with more clearcuts and logging roads-fragmenting the forest even more than it is today.
Snowmobiles Keep snowmobiles to Forest Service roads. Continue the off-road snowmobiling status quo.
Roads Allow no new roads to be built. Allow an average of 17 roads to be built each year-on top of the existing 3,000 miles of roads.
