LARAMIE – Biodiversity Conservation Alliance today announced its schedule of summer outings. These outings are free of charge and open to the public. These outings will focus on mountain areas of high conservation importance, for which BCA is focusing conservation efforts. Hikes and dates are as follows:
July 9th - Centennial Ridge Hike
This moderate day hike will visit meadows and historic mine ruins along the crest of Centennial Ridge, plus a foray into the North Fork Roadless Area. Bring your lunch, water, rain gear, and camera.
August 13th - Wyoming Range Hike
This day hike will visit the timberline meadows and high peaks of the Wyoming Range, one of the state's largest roadless areas. This primitive mountain range in western Wyoming is currently threatened by oil and gas development.
August 27th - Snowy Range Old Growth Outing
Join us for an outing to some of the Snowy Range's beautiful, untouched old growth forest. Outing leaves Laramie at 8:00 A.M., lasts all day. Plan for moderately strenuous cross-country hiking.
September 10th - Battle Mountain Hike
An ancient volcanic remnant, Battle Mountain now supports plant communities that have remained virtually untouched from civilization. A Research Natural Area and potential wilderness, Battle Mountain is a western Sierra Madre gem. Plan for moderately strenuous cross-country hiking.
To sign up, participants should call Maggie Schafer, BCA Community Outreach Organizer, at (307) 742-7978 or e-mail carmi@voiceforthewild.org.
