BCA Acts to Hold Mountain Cement Accountable in Court this Week

October 25, 2005

Judge Brimmer is hearing a case brought by BCA and the Sierra Club against Mountain Cement today through Friday of this week in Wyoming Federal District Court at the Joseph C. O'Mahoney Federal Center in Cheyenne.  If you would like to observe the trial, you are welcome to come, dressed in formal business attire, to courtroom 2 at the Joseph C. O'Mahoney Federal Center, 2120 Capitol Avenue, Cheyenne, WY.  Be prepared to walk through a security metal detector on your way in (don't bring a pocketknife).  Court will be in session from 10am to 5pm.

Background on the Case

Mountain Cement has itself reported that it has exceeded its air quality permit thousands of times in the past five years, yet has refused to install up-to-date pollution controls, and has therefore profited by polluting Laramie's air.  To see which chemicals are released by Mountain Cement and their possible health effects, please visit the Environmental Defense Scorecard website at http://www.scorecard.org/env-releases/facility.tcl?tri_id=82070MNTNC5SAND  For more background on this issue, please visit http://www.voiceforthewild.org/general/news/n22oct04.html.
