“A Wyoming Conversation”

April 18, 2005

Biodiversity Conservation Alliance encourages its members to attend any of the Wyoming Conversations put on in the next week by the Wyoming Council for the Humanities.  Please come speak out to improve conservation efforts and responsible, sustainable development in our great state!  Below is an invitation from Victoria Forth Sherry of the WCH.
Thanks!

The next discussion in the series “A Wyoming Conversation” takes places Thursday, April 21, at 7 p.m. in Cheyenne, Ethete, Evanston, Fort Washakie, Gillette, Jackson, and Pinedale.  The topic is “Balancing Preservation and Development.”

The conversation will focus on how Wyoming should determine the balance between economic growth and the preservation of its history, open space and wildlife.   Participants will consider the aspects of the natural and built environment that make their community unique, then discuss priorities for preserving those features in light of changes such as the expansion of second homes and “rural sprawl,” the razing of historic buildings or the impact of energy development on the landscape.

Wyoming Public Radio will introduce the topic with a special broadcast on Wednesday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m.  The show features interviews with Mary Humstone, a rural preservation specialist at the University of Wyoming, and Dave Reetz, President of the Powell Valley Economic Development Alliance.

Locations and moderators for the April 21 conversations are as follows:

  • Cheyenne: LCCC Center for Conferences and Institutes - Mike Shonsey
  • Ethete:  Wind River Tribal College - Merle Haas
  • Evanston: Beeman-Cashin Building, Depot Square – Barbara A. Bogart
  • Fort Washakie: Shoshone Cultural Center – Caroline Mills
  • Gillette: Campbell County Public Library – Doug Dumbrill
  • Jackson: Center for the Arts – Stephen Lottridge
  • Pinedale: Rendezvous Pointe Senior Center – Mary Lynn Worl

Please forward this announcement to anyone you know who may be interested in attending.  Thanks!
