ADOPT-A-WILDERNESS

Enjoy and explore a wildland while helping it get the protection it deserves.

The Medicine Bow holds an amazing array of wild areas, located throughout the forest and representing a broad diversity of habitats. The relatively undisturbed nature of these wild places is essential for the continued survival of many rare or vulnerable animals and plants, like the Northern goshawk.

But these wildlands are not only extremely important to our region’s wildlife communities, they are loved and cherished by the people who frequent the Medicine Bow.

Despite their importance, these roadless areas are constantly under threat from unsustainable logging practices and irresponsible motorized use. But we now have an opportunity to protect them for generations to come. Because the U.S. Forest Service is revising its long-term management plan for the Medicine Bow, the conservation community has a once in a generation chance to achieve greater wilderness protection on the forest.

You can help save these remarkable places.

By "adopting a wilderness" you will pick a potential, and currently unprotected, wilderness area on the Med’ Bow. We then hope you will visit the area to experience its wild qualities, to watch its wildlife, and to simply enjoy it. Next, you will document your natural encounters through pictures, and then arrange them in a scrapbook or informational display.

This is a wonderful opportunity for concerned individuals, entire families, groups of friends, community organizations, or businesses to not only enjoy and explore a wild place, but to become a direct advocate for its protection. We hope you will pull together with your community to Keep the ‘Bow WILD!
