Wyoming Senator John Barrasso has succeeded in getting the Wyoming Range Legacy Act passed out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee by a 13 to 9 vote. The bill, which would protect 1.2 million acres of the Bridger-Teton National Forest including the Wyoming Range, now heads to a floor vote in the Senate before proceeding on the the House of Representatives. This bill will provide long-term protection (at least from oil and gas drilling) for important lynx, elk, and wolverine habitat, as well as streams containing pure populations of the rare Colorado River cutthroat trout. The bill represents a good start on conservation issues for the new senator, who replaced Sen. Craig Thomas following his death in 2007. If you’re a Wyoming resident, send Senator Barrasso a message
