Your Response Needed Wyoming Wild Forest Alert
What You Can Do
Where to Write

Your calls and letters needed to protect roadless areas.

Yesterday, October 13, President Clinton announced that he wants to protect all roadless areas on the National Forests. He instructed the Dept. of Agriculture to start the process of rulemaking as soon as possible, but it will be several months before anything really happens. In the meantime, the Wyoming Congressional Delegation, along with Governor Geringer, have all came out strongly AGAINST the President's proposal. They do not want our vanishing roadless areas protected.

The delegation and governor need to hear from Wyoming citizens who care about roadless areas and want to see all of our remaining wild forests protected. If these elected official don't here from us, they'll think their extreme industrial logging perspective is representative of the majority of Wyoming residents. It is also important that the president and Forest Service know that our delegation does not represent our views.

We are asking Wyoming citizens to write a single letter, addressed to the Delegation and Governor, expressing support for protection of ALL roadless areas greater than 1,000 acres. These roadless areas should be protected from road building, logging, mining, and all other activities that would compromise their roadless qualities. These are the LAST roadless areas that exist on our public forests. They need the strongest possible protection, to benefit wildlife, clean water, and primitive recreation.

Please write a quick letter to the Wyoming Delegation and Governor Geringer, and mail/email/fax to:

P.S. It is undecided if the ultimate policy will protect roadless areas from just road construction, or from both roads and timber harvest. We will be sending another alert when the official comment period opens. Until then, contact us for more information at: maggie@voiceforthewild.org
