LARAMIE - Biodiversity Conservation Alliance has just announced its schedule of Red Desert outings. These hikes will be led by BCA staff and are free and open to the public. Adobe Town
May 10th-11th, meeting at 10 am
Description: Camping and easy to moderate rambles along the rims and among the pinnacles of the spectacular Adobe Town Wilderness Study Area in the southern Red Desert.
Weather permitting: wet weather makes the roads in this area impassable, so a major rain or snowfall will cancel this trip.
Bring: Camping gear, hiking clothes, sunglasses, camera, water and food for 2 days; 4WD vehicle required, high clearance recommended.
Meeting place: We will meet at the Bitter Creek railroad siding. Take I-80 east from Rock Springs or west from Wamsutter to the Bitter Creek exit 142. Drive south on the Bitter Creek Road for 7 miles to the railway siding on the north side of the tracks.

Honeycomb Buttes
May 17th-18th, meeting at 10 am
Description: Camping and easy to moderate cross-country hiking amid a colorful maze of buttes and badlands in the Jack Morrow Hills area.
Weather permitting: wet weather makes the roads in this area impassable, so a major rain or snowfall will cancel or postpone this trip.
Bring: Camping gear, hiking clothes, sunglasses, camera, water and food for 2 days; High clearance vehicle recommended.
Meeting place: We will meet at the Bar-X Road exit on I-80, between Wamsutter and Point of Rocks.
Trip Leader: Jeremy Nichols, who conducted the Wilderness Inventory for this unit.
Trip Limit: 15 people


Southern Red Desert Caravan Tour
May 24th-26th (Mermorial Day Weekend), meeting10 am
Description: A 3-day driving tour with camping, short day hikes, and bird-watching through the most scenic parts of the southern Red Desert. Highlights will include the Atlantic Rim area, Flattop Mountains, Powder Rim, and Adobe Town.
Weather permitting: wet weather makes the roads in this area impassable, so a major rain or snowfall will cancel or postpone this trip.
Bring: Camping gear, hiking clothes, sunglasses, camera, water and food for 3 days; High clearance vehicle required.
Meeting place: We will meet at the Flying J gas station on the westernmost I-80 exit in Rawlins.

Trip Limit: 15 people.


Wild Cow Creek
May 31st-June 1st, meeting at 10 am
Description: A moderately strenuous two-day backpack with significant hill climbing through the draws and ridges of the Wild Cow Creek proposed wilderness study area.
Weather permitting: wet weather makes the roads in this area impassable, so a major rain or snowfall will postpone or cancel this trip.
Bring: Backpacking gear (including tent, water filter, backpack, and sleeping bag/pad), hiking clothes, sunglasses, camera, water and food for 2 days.
Meeting place: We will meet at the Baggs Road (Wyoming 789) exit on I-80, about 30 miles west of Rawlins.

Trip limit: 10 people
