PROTECTING WYOMING'S BIOLOGICALLY IMPORTANT WATERS
Programs

This is our program to protect water quality and aquatic wildlife in the state of Wyoming. While there are relatively few individual sources of water pollution in Wyoming, there are many streams which are polluted by dispersed sources. In fact, in 1996 there were about 360 stream segments were listed as impaired by the state of Wyoming. Just as important, more than 30 species of non-game fish native to Wyoming are declining in population or distribution and therefore are of great conservation concern. None of these fish currently receive federal or state protection. We are working with other Wyoming groups to fill the need for additional citizen oversight and participation in water quality issues all across Wyoming. Our emphasis is on gaining protection for aquatic life--non-game native fish, wetlands plants, etc.--and for the waters which they inhabit.
